THE OUT OF BOX EXPERIENCE #
GW2A Combat Assistant or GW2A as coined by its ever growing community is a plugin that primarily makes skill casting decisions on your behalf using any profession and any build.
Designed to work out of the box: there is an initial requirement to setup key binds provided by the GW2CC key binds user interface. After this initial setup, the Player is ready to go out into the open world and start playing by pressing the Toggle Combat key bind to start or stop casting skills at targets.

KEYBIND | DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
Toggle Combat | Turns the combat assistant on or off. |
Toggle Targeting | Turns targeting on or off. |
Cycle Targeting Mode | Cycles through the targeting modes. |
Suspend Keybind Process | Temporarily suspends processing all GW2A key binds to allow the player to chat or search through the trade post. |
Popup Commander Teleport | When held down: Pops up a grid of commander and mentor tags on the map in the party area of the game user interface. Clicking on one of these icons will teleport the player to that tag. |
Catch Fish | Skips the fishing minigame and catches a fish when the bite icon is displayed over the Player’s head. |
Toggle Tag Auto Attack | When targeting mode is set to Tag: Will only use weapon 1 skill to tag targets. |
Speed Boost | When held down: Provides the Player with a 50% speed boost. |
On initial activation, GW2A will default to acquire the nearest hostile target.
FURTHER SETUP #
While the out of box experience gets Players started quickly, it is required that the Player understand that all skills are going to be used and in some cases, this is not always desirable.
Choosing how the character is built is also important for what the Player decides to do. This is a game design choice and not a limitation of GW2A. Builds that work best are best left to the community to decide and engaging in the GW2A discord will help you find an appropriate build for the task at hand and best compatibility with GW2A.
Skills classified as healing, stun breaks or reducing defiance bars will trigger when the conditions for those skills are met, however, Players making superfluous leaps into mobs and subsequently dying is not a desirable behaviour.
The Global Skills Configuration window, while initially overwhelming, can help with turning off skills that the Player does not wish to have cast in the case of leaps. While this window is discussed at length in another document it is important to understand the basics of turning skills on or off.
To access the global skilss configuration window, select it from the addon menu.

In the below example, we use the configuration window’s name filter box to find the Sand Swell skill on a necromancer because we don’t want GW2A to port the character into danger. Clicking the green checkbox disables this skill from GW2A’s internal skill selection evaluators. The player can confirm that the skill is disabled when it gets replaced with a red X and the skill itself turns red.

After completing this additional setup, Players will find improved usage with GW2A.
FEATURE OVERVIEW #
Players should take note that all features are documented using tool tips for quick reference. Hover your mouse over user interface widgets such as labels, buttons and switches to popup a hint describing what that widget does.
The Player will be greeted by a minimalist set of widgets on first run. Understanding these and how to use them will help the Player get an overview of what GW2A is set to do.

The status indicator can be moved around by holding the left mouse button down and dragging it to a location that is desirable so that the Player has this in view.
- Right clicking the status indicator will expand or collapse the status labels to the right of the widget.
- Double clicking the status indicator will produce a panel with extended information about the current state of GW2A including some metrics about your gaming environment. The information is self explanatory and is mostly used to troubleshoot performance issues with GW2A.
When the status indicator is in expanded metrics mode, Players can hover over each of the metrics to understand their impact on game play. The last metric provides the Player with an expectation of how GW2A will perform.

Accessing more of GW2A’s underlying features requires interacting with its menu by clicking on its menu icon which presents the Player with the following options:

MENU ITEM | DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
GW2A 0.8.117-BETA | This menu item shows the Player what version is currently running. Clicking on it opens a window with the latest release notes. |
Reports | Opens a window with a number of tabs with useful information about the world around the player. |
Global Skills Configuration | Opens a window that enables further customization of GW2A. If you are an advanced user, this is where you will spend most of your time. |
Skill Visualiser | A window with some information about the Player, the target and a representation of what GW2A thinks is on the character’s skill bar. This view provides the Player with insights as to why GW2A may not be working especially if skills are missing or not in the expected slot. |
Preferences | Also known as the configuration window. Contains a number of settings to change GW2A’s behaviour. |
Profile Management | GW2A allows Players to store their configuration and settings in the form of profiles. Profiles can be loaded, switched out or shared with other Players in the community discord. |
Navmesh Manager | Presents the Player with a window that allows them to pre-generate all navigation meshes required by GW2CC at runtime. |
